Journey to the end of Yonge Street
- Author: Harris Hill Resort
- Accommodation: Northern Ontario
You may know that Yonge Street starts in Toronto Ontario, but did you know that it is the longest street in the world? It ends in Ontario, but do you know where?
Yonge Street ends at the farthest extent west in Ontario, at Rainy River, at the Minnesota USA Border. Rainy River has a population of approx 1000 people. Although not a large community, they have all the amenities you need plus there is a lot to do! The Rainy River District is known by Birders as it is a unique area where the Eastern & Western Regions meet, and birds of both regions are found here. This Birding District boasts 302 + species of birds in the area.
The Rainy River itself is excellent for fishing, and empties into the renowned Lake of the Woods that provides habitat for many freshwater species of fish and also for wildlife in the area. Both Rainy River & nearby Morson offer Fishing Tournaments throughout the year. This is a great place for Birders, Nature Lovers, Fishermen, Hunters and for Family Vacations. Many islands have natural beaches and you can enjoy swimming, tanning and relaxing family vacations.
On the water you can enjoy waterskiing or tubing, boating and sight-seeing to such places as two different Lighthouses, Native Pictographs painted on the rock surfaces hundreds of years ago. Enjoy the best accommodations on the waterfronts of the Rainy River and Lake of the Woods.
