- Accommodation: Central Ontario
At Collingwood‘s Scenic Caves Natural Adventures, you can take an eco-adventure with zip lines, trekking through the treetops, and more; or, you can walk across the suspension bridge, which at 126 metres, is Ontario‘s longest. During the winter months, a fantastic trail system offers snowshoeing and cross country skiing; these are just a few examples of all that awaits adventurers of all ages at this magnificent natural getaway. Let’s take a closer look.
Self-Guided Walking Tours: Caves and More
One of the best ways to take in the natural beauty Scenic Caves Adventures offers is to take the self-guided walking tour, which takes you through caves and caverns, and across the suspension bridge. For about two hours, you’ll be immersed in the beauty of nature, plus you’ll find yourself deep inside Blue Mountain, where the Hurons believed the souls of the dead passed through to the afterlife. Inside these magnificent caves and crevices, you’ll find a natural fortress which sheltered the Petun people, plus you’ll be able to descend into the ice cave, which is a crevasse so deep and cold that winter’s snow and ice often remains into the early summer months.
The trails you’ll be walking are splendid; you’ll find yourself walking through a canopy of sugar maples and red oaks, white birch, and other trees, admiring wildflowers, Maidenhair ferns, and more. You’ll also be able to step right to the edge of the Niagara Espcarpment’s limestone cliffs, where you can look down across 10,000 square kilometres of Canada’s countryside. 300 metres below, you’ll be awed by the beautiful blue waters of Georgian Bay.
When you cross the suspension bridge, you’ll be treated to another incredible view; you’ll be able to see across the bay to Wasaga Beach, Christian Island, and the faraway shores of the Penetanguishene Peninsula. Try snowshoeing across the bridge during the winter months for a completely surreal experience you’ll never forget.
Eco Adventure Tours
Zip lines and a treetop walk are just two of the fun and challenging adventures you’ll enjoy during this three hour guided tour; it includes a trip through the caves and a journey across the suspension bridge. All safety equipment is supplied, and tours are conducted in intimate groups of no more than fourteen people at a time. There are height and weight restrictions, so be sure to check with Scenic Caves in advance to ensure everyone in your part can enjoy the eco adventure.
Fun for All Ages
Not only are there natural wonders to discover at Scenic Caves Natural Adventures, there are fun diversions for kids of all ages. Try your hand at gemstone mining, or enjoy 18 challenging holes of mini golf. There is a picnic area with a trout pond where you can feed the rainbow trout; if you pack your own picnic, keep in mind that alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not permitted. During the winter months, you can warm up by the fire in the chalet; either bring your own lunch, or visit the snack bar, which offers a variety of hot and cold selections as well as beverages.
There are a number of excellent accommodations in and around the Collingwood area, including inns and lodges, resorts, and much more. No matter when you visit Scenic Caves, you’re certain to enjoy a memorable journey. Remember your camera; this is one of those trips that calls for lots of photos.
