Temagami, in the Ojibway language, meaning Deep Water by the Shore is situated on the deep clear waters of Lake Temagami, with its many long indented bays and over 1200 islands. Surrounded by towering old growth forest, this area has lured generations of native peoples, traders, naturalists and artists. Archie Belaney, better known as Grey Owl, spent six years in Temagami from 1906 to 1912, learning to speak Ojibway and becoming an expert in nature lore.
Hike the majestic wilderness trails or fly into remote lakes and enjoy peace and tranquility at an outpost cabin and canoe or kayak the spectacular water routes. You can camp beside sparkling, crystal clear waters in local Provincial Parks and fish for fabled monster lake trout, walleye or northern pike. In summer, be lulled to sleep by the haunting call of the loon, and in winter try the incredible winter experience of dog sledding.
Temagami accommodations offer numerous choices of rustic lodges, cottages, resorts, campgrounds and outfitters.
