Kapuskasing is an Indian name meaning, "Bend in the River", which is the actual trajectory of the Kapuskasing River as it approaches the community. Kapuskasing, called the "Model Town of the North", acknowledges its humble beginnings to the establishment in the early 1900s, of the National Transcontinental Railroad. Also of interest, was an unusual soil composite known as the clay belt that provided early settlers with land grants to establish farms.
Kapuskasing's economical progress is due to the successful development and expansion of its retail sector, tourism, and new industry. It is a small community on a mission to maintain its economic future.
Over 9000 residents call this somewhat remote, but thriving community, home. Its year round recreational facilities provide an array of choices for all ages. Spectacular fishing, boating, golfing, parks, and hiking are main attractions.
